What location tracking technologies does Pawfit use and what are their limitations?

GPS - Pawfit uses GPS (Global Positioning System) as the primary means to calculate your pet’s locations. The GPS locations are generally accurate. However, it is available in open space with a clear view of the sky.

A-GPS - When GPS signal is not available - such as the tracker being indoors or underground, or the GPS receiver in cold start, the Pawfit uses Assisted GPS (A-GPS) by using neighbouring WiFi, cell tower and Bluetooth ID to estimate your pet's location. Depending on where your area is, the accuracy of it can range from a few metres to several kilometres.

Our optimisation algorithm updates the A-GPS locations regularly by comparing them with GPS readings. Therefore, the more frequently that you use Pawfit in your area, the more indoor location accuracy.

If the location is calculated by GPS signals, it will state GPS strong on your pet's status card. If the location is based on A-GPS, the pet's status card will display GPS weak. For more information of your pet's status card, please refer to the following article: What is pet's status card?
