Question
My area has poor mobile phone coverage, can I use the Pawfit tracker?
Answer
The Pawfit tracker uses GPS to track locations and sends over the tracking data to the App via mobile phone network.
If the phone signal (2G more specifically), is poor or patchy, it may result in a delay of receiving tracking data, or not being able to respond to commands in time.* Poor mobile coverage can also result in poor battery life of the tracker. However, the Pawfit tracks constantly, even when there is no phone signal. It stores the offline tracking data and sends this data over when it gets a phone signal again. If your pet goes into a signal blind spot where you cannot receive the tracking information in real time, you will still be able to find them once they come out of the signal blind spots. Ultimately, this is not a limitation of the tracker, but more so an important factor that explains what the tracker relies on in order to work.
The Pawfit tracker also offers a unique audio ID feature whereby the tracker states your pet's information through the tracker's speaker, which can be very helpful in a variety of situations. Many of our customers were successfully contacted by strangers who had found their dogs/tracker in poor phone coverage areas by using this feature.
* The Pawfit 3s is an exception as it can work using a Wi-Fi connection when LTE-M is not available.
